How to create a billable task and use the Timer (Barrister)

How barristers can create a task in BarBooks for Chambers

The guide and video below, will walk you through how to create a billable task (also known as a billable item) for a Matter. 

There are 3 area's you can create Tasks. From within a Matter, from the Quick Actions button and in the Tasks Tab. 


Within A Matter:

  1. Navigate to the "Matters" tab on the side bar. 
  2. Select the relevant "Matter".
  3. Click on the "Tasks" sub tab. 
  4. Select “New Task”.
  5. Enter in the necessary information.
  6. Enter in the duration manually or use the timer once it has been created. 
  7. Click “Create”.
  8. Locate the relevant Task and scroll all the way to the right hand side.
  9. Click on the ellipses to manually edit the Task duration OR click on the "Stopwatch Icon" to start the Timer for the existing Task. 

From Quick Actions:

  1. Click on the "Quick Actions" button at the top of the screen. 
  2. Select "Create Task" or "Start Timer Immediately"
  3. Fill in the necessary information.
  4. Click "Create"
  5. If you selected "Start Timer Immediately", once you create it, the Timer will continue to run at the top of the screen until you pause/stop it.
  6. You can still locate the relevant Task/s within a Matter or within the main Tasks tab. If you scroll to the right hand side of the relevant Task, you will still find the ellipses to edit the duration manually as well as the "Stopwatch icon" to use the Timer. 

Main Tasks Tab:

  1. Navigate to the main "Tasks" tab on the side panel.
  2. Select "Create Task" or "Start Timer".
  3. Fill in the necessary information.
  4. Click "Create"
  5. If you selected "Start Timer Immediately", once you create it, the Timer will continue to run at the top of the screen until you pause/stop it.
  6. You can still locate the relevant Task/s within a Matter or within the main Tasks tab. If you scroll to the right hand side of the relevant Task, you will still find the ellipses to edit the duration manually as well as the "Stopwatch icon" to use the Timer.
