User Permissions
1. New Roles & Permissions to limit Clerk’s Dashboard access Clerks only
We have introduced a new permission setting that allows administrators to enable or disable dashboard visibility specifically for Clerk users. This enhancement is designed to improve control over the visibility of sensitive financial information displayed on the dashboard.
Admin Clerks can disable this permission for existing Non-Barrister roles by unchecking the option, thereby removing Dashboard tab access for all Clerk users assigned to that role.
Invoicing Enhancements
2. Billing Address Details displayed when creating new invoice Barristers & Clerks
The billing address information is now visible in all invoice modals — including New, Issue, and Request to Issue — to enhance clarity and allow users to verify invoice recipient details before issuance.
Billing details pulled directly from the Matter (including “Address to” and “Email to” fields) are now shown clearly.
Additionally, the Matter name in the invoice summary is now a clickable link that redirects to the full Matter page.
3. Display more relevant details on the To do items Barristers & Clerks
The To Do modal now shows linked Matter and Firm names, along with the "Address To" details from the Matter to improve the usability and clarity of invoicing-related tasks.
Barrister and contact names now include hover state displaying contact information — similar to the booking modal.
All invoice-related To Dos now follow a consistent Title and Description format, such as "Issue Invoice for {Barrister Name}" with additional descriptive context beneath.
A dedicated Matter column and filter has been added to the To Do table, allowing users to quickly identify related matters.
The improvements apply to all invoice flows, including Issue Invoice, Chase Invoice, and Review Invoice To Do types.
4. Clerks will have the ability to add note and manage attachments at Invoicing stage Clerks only
Clerks will now be able to add notes and manage attachments during the invoice creation process, enhancing communication and documentation control within the invoicing workflow.
How it works:
Clerks can now easily add a new note directly from the "Notes" section using the "New Note" button when on New Invoice flow.
Existing attachments from the barrister are visible, and clerks can upload, remove, or replace attachments with ease.
Clerks can upload documents either from their local computer or by selecting from Matter documents directly in the "Notes" section.
All uploaded attachments automatically appear in the Documents tab of the Invoice and the Matter when it is created, ensuring a seamless workflow.
5. Clerks will have the ability to edit Tasks at Invoicing stage Clerks only
This update enhances the invoice creation process by allowing clerks to edit task details directly within the Request to Issue Invoice and New Invoice modals.
Clerks can now edit all fields (except Matter and Barrister) in the Request to Issue Invoice and New Invoice modals, including Rate, Duration, Discount, and Description.
Changes made in the Edit Task modal are instantly reflected in the task summary, with recalculations for Rate, GST, and Total.
Important note: This feature only applies during the invoice creation stage and does not affect already issued invoices.
6. Enable Barristers to Edit Invoice Fields During Request to Issue Stage Barristers Only
Barristers can now edit invoice fields such as Issue Date, Due Date, Reference Number, and Brief ID when requesting invoice issuance.
Booking Form Improvements
7. Ability to control 'Booking Notifications' to Barristers Clerks only
Clerks will now have greater control over whether barristers receive booking email notifications on a per-booking basis. This update allows for increased flexibility while maintaining the existing notification logic for other recipients (e.g. solicitors, clients, etc.)
How it works:
A new checkbox for “Barrister” will now appear in the email notification settings when a barrister is assigned to a booking.
By default, this checkbox will be pre-selected, meaning the barrister will receive a notification unless manually deselected.
Clerks can now deselect the barrister if they do not wish to send a notification for that particular booking.
Important note: If your chamber-level preference to disable booking notifications to barristers is enabled, the “Barrister” checkbox will not appear at all on the booking form. There will be no change for your current setup.
8. Booking Title Field Prefill Logic Barristers & Clerks
This introduces a smart Title field prefill feature designed to streamline booking creation and enhance workflow consistency for both clerks and barristers.
How it works:
A Chamber-level setting can now be enabled to provide flexible Title field prefill behavior in Matter, Event, and Leave bookings, supporting automation and custom workflows.
The system features smart prefill logic, automatically generating a Title if Subtype, Task Type, Court, or Location are selected before entering a Title (e.g., “Subtype - Task - Court - Matter Title”).
Users can still manually override the Title if they type in the Title first or edit a prefilled Title, the system disables the auto-prefill to preserve their input.
Changes to Subtype, Task Type, Court, or Location update the Title in real time, unless the user has manually entered their own Title.
Event and Leave bookings are enhanced: Event Titles now use Subtype + Location, while Leave Titles display "On leave - Subtype" if selected (e.g., On leave - Maternity).
Activation: To activate this enhancement for your chamber, please contact the BarBooks support team. Once confirmed, our development team will apply the setting.
Diary Function Improvements
9. Default message on Copy selected Available Barristers feature Clerks only
This enhancement improves the “Copy Selected Available Barristers” functionality in the Diary. Copying selected barrister profiles now includes a pre-defined message that can be pasted into emails or documents, saving clerks time.
How it works:
If "Available on" date selector is used, the copied message will include the exact date or date range (e.g., “available from 10 Jan to 15 Jan”).
If no barristers are available based on the filters, an empty state will appear with a button to copy a friendly “no barristers available” message.
All copied messages are formatted for the clipboard, ensuring they preserve their formatting when pasted into Gmail, Outlook, or Word.
10. Allow Multi-Day Series Functionality on Event, Check First, and Leave Booking Types Barristers & Clerks
We’ve expanded the Multi-Day Series functionality to include Event, Check First, and Leave booking types—bringing them in line with how Matter bookings currently work.
Clerks and barristers can now set up multi-day series bookings (e.g., Mon–Thurs for 3 weeks) for Event, Check First, and Leave types—just like Matter bookings.
